Poetry Prize VI
Theme: ‘all roads via Rome’
On Tuesday 17th March, we celebrated the sixth edition of The Latin Programme Poetry Prize with our annual prize-giving event at The Broadway Bookshop, Hackney. It was a wonderful evening, bringing together this year’s poets with friends and supporters of the programme, with the longlisted poems brought to life by readings from Alison Skilbeck and Simon Kunz.
Waltham Collective was invited to curate the space and one of the artists was commissioned to create a large-scale site-specific piece.
Following the routes of the main Roman roads are words from The Aeneid by Virgil. In red ink are marked the major cities, with Rome taking the central position on the map.
This artwork was created in the span of two evenings, especially for the Latin Programme Poetry Prize VI. The work has been created on the theme of the poetry prize open call, ‘all roads via Rome’. The artist, who specialises in portraiture but likes to go out of his comfort zone, also takes private commissions.
As a curator, Margarita Makhanova created a site-specific intervention and set the size of the work, along with the interpretation of the theme within Angus’s art style. Knowing the artist’s appreciation of maps and the celebration of the art of poetry, combining these two was a clear vision of the art piece commissioned for today’s occasion.

An original artwork by Angus Forbes-Cable, ‘All Words Lead To Rome’ (2026, pencil and ink on paper) was created specifically for, and displayed at, the event (pictured below).
Spring Exhibition 2026
Waltham Collective continued to collaborate with The Latin Programme. On the 12th of May Margarita Makhanova curated a special exhibition in the heart of Primrose Hill, in partnership with textile artist Pauline Caulfield.
The works of four artists, including our member, Angus Forbes-Cable, were exhibited.

The private view was followed by food and a Q&A with the artists, discussing the influence of the classical world on their work.
